About the Role and Team

At Uber, we're making cities safer, smarter, and more connected. And we're doing it at a global scale - energizing local economies and bringing opportunity to millions of people around the world. Uber's positive impact is tangible in the communities we operate in, and that drives us to keep moving forward.

As a PM in Uber's Safety team, you will drive innovation in one of the most important aspects of transportation, launching products that will create massive impact for millions of drivers and riders. If you're ready to go deep working on a rewarding set of challenges and if you've got the skills, experience, drive, and a strong team mentality - get in touch!

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Product Manager with technical depth, product intuition and entrepreneurial spirit to drive the safety experiences roadmap. The role demands principled thinking, a stubborn refusal to settle, bold innovation, and a mentality that always starts with the user. You will work with star engineers and product designers in a fast-paced, rapidly growing, hybrid technology + operations environment to build tools, contextual experiences and implement policies to engender trust among our users and promote safety globally. You should be comfortable in uncharted territory as we build unique safety technologies for eaters, riders, drivers, couriers and every user who touches the Uber community. We need your skills and enthusiasm to make it happen.

What you'll do

  • Build models, tools, backend solutions and user-facing products that enhance safety for all of our users
  • Internalize and deeply understand Uber's mission and strategies, as well as how the Uber Safety team's mission and objectives factor into the company strategy
  • Be incredibly truth-seeking. Collect whatever data is necessary to inform product direction by soliciting and embracing critical feedback
  • Identify opportunities for new products that leverage Uber's global scale and build upon its safety infrastructure to provide unique and lasting customer value. You will work with our regional teams to understand issues on the ground and make those solutions a part of your roadmap.
  • Clearly communicate plans, insights, data and results to a spectrum of audiences including executives, other product teams, and other decision-makers across Uber
  • Partner with Data Science, User Experience Research, Operations and Support teams to seek insights on user problems and evangelize those problems, along with your proposed solutions, across Uber
  • Distill the vision and strategy, and generate enthusiasm across the cross-functional team through creative problem solving and ruthless prioritization

Basic Qualifications

  • 6 + years of experience as a Product Manager, with a proven track record of shipping large-scale projects each quarter that yield quantifiable impact.
  • Proven track record in developing products leveraging complex algorithms or data-driven optimization.
  • Proven ability to convert unstructured problems with significant ambiguity into clarifying, focused plans for multi-team projects.
  • Strong technical depth: Able to coordinate large engineering efforts, identify potential technical risks, and act as an effective partner for engineering managers across teams.
  • Experience defining OKRs and roadmaps for complex programs/platforms, ensuring teams operate with minimal noise and a rapid clip of high-quality delivery.
  • Demonstrated leadership in overseeing deeply experimental teams, partnering with data science managers to drive strong experimentation and data-driven prioritization.
  • Proficient in UX/UI paradigms: Ability to own the design process for complex products, providing deep context to designers while driving fast iteration cycles for new concepts.
  • Experience representing significant areas of work to executives to gather feedback, generate alignment, and garner support.
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related technical/quantitative field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Domain expertise in Financial Services, Autonomous Vehicles, or high-scale Marketplace mechanics.
  • Passionate about shipping "magical," defect-free products, overseeing quality monitoring, alerting, and retrospective processes.
  • Proven recruiter and mentor: Ability to successfully hire for the team and serve as a coveted member of all product interview loops.
  • Strategic 0-to-1 experience: Generating innovative ideas for new product areas and incorporating customer feedback into long-term visions.
  • Global experience: Building and launching products that bridge digital and physical worlds across diverse regional contexts.

3. WHAT IS "WORKING REMOTE" REALLY FOR YOU?

Many people want to work remotely because of the flexibility it allows. You can work anywhere and at any time of the day...

With this question, companies are looking to see what equipment they may need to provide you with and to verify how aware you are of what remote working could mean for you physically and logistically...

5. HOW DO YOU PROCESS INFORMATION?

Several years ago, I was working in a team to plan a big event. My supervisor made us all work as a team before the big day. One of our activities has been to find out how each of us processes information...

6. HOW DO YOU MANAGE THE CALENDAR AND THE PROGRAM? WHICH APPLICATIONS / SYSTEM DO YOU USE?

Or you may receive even more specific questions, such as: What's on your calendar? Do you plan blocks of time to do certain types of work? Do you have an open calendar that everyone can see?...

7. HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE FILES, LINKS, AND TABS ON YOUR COMPUTER?

Just like your schedule, how you track files and other information is very important. After all, everything is digital!...

8. HOW TO PRIORITIZE WORK?

9. HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A MEETING AND PREPARE A MEETING? WHAT DO YOU SEE HAPPENING DURING THE MEETING?

Just as communication is essential when working remotely, so is organization. Because you won't have those opportunities in the elevator or a casual conversation in the lunchroom, you should take advantage of the little time you have in a video or phone conference...

10. HOW DO YOU USE TECHNOLOGY ON A DAILY BASIS, IN YOUR WORK AND FOR YOUR PLEASURE?

This is a great question because it shows your comfort level with technology, which is very important for a remote worker because you will be working with technology over time...
