PURPOSE OF POSITION

This position is responsible for executing policies and procedures related to curriculum, the master schedule, and testing.  Assist the building principal with a variety of instructional, evaluative, and supervisory duties.  Major areas of focus may include students, staff, parents, scheduling, curriculum and instruction, public relations, and budget.  

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Coordinate with administration, staff, and other stakeholders to develop and implement staff development programs. Advise the building principal on continuous improvement initiatives, curriculum improvement, and budget expenditures.  
  2. Evaluate teachers and support staff in accordance with Ohio and Sylvania Schools requirements.
  3. Assist the building principal in the operation of the buildings, grounds, and other school property.  Provide a safe school environment through consistent monitoring of established policies and regulations including, but not limited to, fire, tornado, lockdown, and evacuation procedures. 
  4. Monitor and supervise students in a variety of settings during the school day.  Supervise the bus unloading and loading, hallways before, between, and after classes, and all lunch periods. 
  5. Recommend the addition of new courses, grade placement courses, credit allowance for course and graduation requirements. In cooperation with the Secondary Director of Teaching & Learning and high school administrators, publish current graduation requirements, approved course offerings, and credit opportunities.
  6. Organize the year-long process of student registration for courses in collaboration with the counseling department and teaching staff. 
  7. Build the master schedule and refine it with input from staff, administration, students, and parents.  Publish the master schedule to all staff. 
  8. Monitor student academic progress at all levels, including progress toward graduation, credit recovery needs, and performance in off-campus programs such as CCP.
  9. Collaborate with counselors, teachers, support staff, and records secretary in monitoring student academic progress. 
  10. Lead the department chairs and the building leadership team in academic improvement, maintenance, and communication.  
  11. Provide support for all stakeholders in situations of academic challenge, including teachers, counselors, students, and parents. 
  12. Support for Building Principal and Assistant Principal of Student Services in addressing student discipline issues. 
  13. Monitor and maintain special academic programs in collaboration with program leaders.  Programs include, but are not limited to:
  • Special education, in coordination with the Director of Special Education.
  • Advanced placement, in coordination with AP teachers and department chairs. 
  • Career technical education and College Credit Plus, in coordination with the Director of Secondary Teaching and Learning. 
  • English as a second language, in coordination with the Director of Student Support Services.
  • Special diploma designations, in coordination with the counseling department and building principal. 
  • Sylvania Virtual Academy, in coordination with SVA assigned educators. 
  1.  Participate in the IAT process to address student academic and behavioral concerns.
  2. Collect and analyze test data for reporting to administration and staff.  Develop, implement, and monitor programs for assessment preparation. 
  3. Design, implement, and monitor assessment administration, either directly or through collaboration including but not limited to:
  • PSAT
  • ACT
  • OST
  • AP
  1. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, staff, and administration.  Promote open, honest, and confidential communication with all constituents.
  2. Assist the principal with scheduling special events, assemblies, and activities during the school day.  This may include assemblies and various student orientations.  Coordinate and attend co-curricular and extra curricular activities, including but not limited to parent club meetings, athletic events, academic events, club activities, concerts, and school dances. 
  3. Assist the building principal with placement of pre-service teachers within the building.  
  4. The principal may delegate additional duties/responsibilities as deemed necessary.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  1. Knowledge and understanding of the Ohio Revised Code and state requirements pertaining to the educational system.
  2. Ability to demonstrate interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  3. Possess a high degree of organizational skills.
  4. Demonstrates enthusiasm and a sincere desire to assist all students.
  5. Ability to communicate professionally and effectively by oral, written and presentation communication. 
  6. Ability to solve extensive problems quickly, systematically, and effectively. 
  7. Ability to demonstrate educational leadership, commitment to academic excellence, effective discipline, sensitivity to multicultural issues, and fiscal and budgetary responsibility.
  8. Knowledge in word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
  9. Conscientious and assumes responsibility for own work.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Appropriate and valid State of Ohio certification/license.
  2. Successful administrative experience preferred.
  3. At least three years of highly successful teaching experience.

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
  2. Interaction among unruly adults/children
  3. Operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions.
  4. Repetitive hand motion, e.g. computer keyboard, typing, calculator, writing.
  5. Requirement to travel, both daily and overnight.
