Seeking Experienced Book Formatter for Nonfiction / Deaf Culture Workbook (Print Only: KDP + IngramSpark, Paperback + Hardcover)

Project Overview

I am seeking a reliable, detail oriented book formatter to prepare a nonfiction workbook style manuscript (approx. 300 pages) for print only distribution. The book uses a consistent Q&A structure with unified styles, captions, notes, and a fully developed Production Notes document.

This is an execution focused formatting job: I am not seeking creative interior design concepts or alternative layout ideas. The formatter’s role is to apply the existing style system and produce print ready files for KDP and IngramSpark. Formatter may suggest minor adjustments that improve clarity or readability, but the overall workbook logic, structure, and style system must remain unchanged.

Manuscript Details (for accurate quoting)

• Approx. 300 pages, fully edited

• Workbook format: Q&A structure with scoring blocks and answer explanations

• Manuscript is tightly formatted in Word using consistent styles

• Unified style system already defined (Q&A structure, Notes, Sources, captions)

• Production Notes document provided with formatting rules

• Trim size: 8.5 × 11

• 32 images, all pre selected and ready to place

• Most images require only basic sizing

• Two images (Image 1 - frontispiece may need light adjustment for print clarity and Image 11-Wings Symbols will require cropping to remove extraneous text above the image taken from a book.

Special Layout Element

The Fitzgerald Key grid must remain intact as a single table. The explanatory paragraph and the example sentence may flow naturally and do not need to be forced onto the same page as the grid.”

What I Need

• Interior layout for print ready PDFs for KDP and IngramSpark (paperback + hardcover)

• Precise application of my existing style system

• Proper margins, gutters, bleed, and trim size setup for all three outputs

• Correct handling of the Fitzgerald Key table per Production Notes after consultation

• 1–2 rounds of revisions (layout corrections + finalization)

• Clear communication and reliable timelines

Helpful (but not required)

• This is a book about Deaf culture and American Sign Language. Familiarity with Deaf culture, ASL terminology, or Deaf Studies (Not required; the manuscript includes clear terminology and style guidance.)

Ideal Candidate

• Proven experience formatting nonfiction, educational, or workbook style books

• Experience with both KDP and IngramSpark print requirements (paperback + hardcover)

• Strong attention to detail

• Ability to follow a style sheet

• Portfolio or samples of previous work

Budget

$600–$900, depending on experience and timeline.

Timeline

Formatting to begin in October; final files delivered by November.

If Interested, Please Send:

• A brief introduction

• Portfolio or sample pages

• Your estimated timeline

• Your rate within the stated budget

• 2–3 professional references from past formatting or book production clients with contact email, telephone number

Common Interview Questions And Answers

1. HOW DO YOU PLAN YOUR DAY?

This is what this question poses: When do you focus and start working seriously? What are the hours you work optimally? Are you a night owl? A morning bird? 2. HOW DO YOU USE THE DIFFERENT COMMUNICATION TOOLS IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS?

9. HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A MEETING AND PREPARE A MEETING? WHAT DO YOU SEE HAPPENING DURING THE MEETING?

Just as communication is essential when working remotely, so is organization. Because you won't have those opportunities in the elevator or a casual conversation in the lunchroom, you should take advantage of the little time you have in a video or phone conference...

10. HOW DO YOU USE TECHNOLOGY ON A DAILY BASIS, IN YOUR WORK AND FOR YOUR PLEASURE?
